November was a crazy month. All I have to say is “whoa.” I had the best month in my journey so far. I made over $21,000 with my Etsy Print on Demand shop!

Q4 is always good to Etsy sellers. The traffic on Etsy dramatically increases.

But What About Profit?

Several people have asked about revenue versus profit. I never calculated it because I was banking a lot of the money and was just happy to generate extra cash!

But, I recently read Get Rich, Lucky Bitch by Denise Duffield Thomas. She is a money mindset coach. I highly recommend her books. She has a formula for manifesting money.

Manifesting works, I promise. We can debate that later, but she suggests that if you want to get clear on your goals for manifesting money, you have to measure the money coming in.

So, while revenue is a big fun number to point to, I had to get real and understand what my profits are so that I can plan and prepare for more!

So, my profit numbers were calculated as: Etsy Net Profit $20,645.00 – (Printify Costs + EHunt + Printify Premium + Erank + Canva) $11,307.78 = Net Profit

And the number is…$9,337.22

Not a bad profit margin of 45%. I thought it was much closer to 30%! I’m glad I listened to Denise!

UPDATE: The net profit number is different than what is in the title because I had a few returns in December from November orders.

Is Print-on-Demand Still Profitable in 2024?

The answer is yes. It was profitable in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. It will continue to be profitable into the future.

The first half of the month was pretty flat. I still had sales, but not like the second half of the month! For example, in the first half of the month, I averaged about 10-15 orders per day.

Then, after November 15, I rarely dipped below 20 orders a day.

It still blows my mind, but it also doesn’t. I manifested this, and worked incredibly hard on my mindset. I worked each week on my shop and focused on scaling my shop in a very intentional way.

Black Friday was my best day, with 38 orders!

I live in Portugal, so I go to bed and don’t see how much the shop makes until I wake up. It was a magical feeling to wake up to my highest day of sales ever.

Is Print-on-Demand Oversaturated?

No! Once you find a strategy that works, and that enables you to stand out among the masses of sellers (often selling copies of the same thing), you will see that it is not a saturated market.

You have to understand what customers want, and design products that fill that need.

The Opportunity Report gives you a validated keyword that is selling on Etsy every single week.

Is there a certain type of design that resonates with certain types of people? Really dig down into your niche.

If you want to start your shop and sell Mama shirts, it will probably take you a lot longer to see any traction. Your lack of sales will make you think Etsy is oversaturated. When that is not the case.

And, I made that mistake myself! Youtube University can only teach you so much. I had to learn by failing, and then learning from my mistakes.

But, most importantly, I was consistent and kept creating designs and listings.

What really helped is digging into lesser known niches, with low competition to start to gain traction. Mamas, Nurses, Teachers, are too broad for beginners.

Some tips for getting your first sales on Etsy

  • Think Differently in Your Research: Start researching keywords that may not be super popular, for example, I wrote an article on high demand, low competition niches and keywords. Start there for keywords and see where your research takes you!
  • Design Native to Platform: Think truly about your audience on Etsy. Etsy is known for unique gifts and items that you can’t get on Amazon, Walmart, or Target. Many people pay more for that aspect. Give them unique options!
  • Don’t Overthink SEO: You have to have good SEO. It doesn’t need to be perfect, in fact my bestseller is ranking for a generic keyword (“sweatshirt”) simply because once your item starts getting sales, Etsy will start showing it to more customers regardless of how good or bad your SEO is! This is something I only learned by doing and looking at my own stats. Use eRank to find keywords for your titles and tags.

I started my Etsy shop as a creative outlet, but also because I wanted to live a life of freedom. I was tired of the corporate lifestyle, commuting to work and sitting for 8 hours, when I could do my job remotely.

Travel and moving abroad were my dreams, and I needed to pursue them urgently or I would be stuck in the same lifestyle and unhappy for the next 30 years of my life.

Etsy print-on-demand was the perfect side hustle because I could create a passive income and work on my shop from anywhere.

I craved location freedom, and I now have it with my shop and the passive income it creates each month. If you’re wondering if it is possible, the answer is yes and you can do this too!

The Best SEO and Design Tools for an Etsy Shop:

These are the only tools I use for my shop!

Canva: Canva is the most amazing tool. It is user friendly, and always improving! The tools that Canva has have evolved so much since I first started using it in 2022 for the better. I use it almost everyday. I use it to create designs, to edit AI designs, and to create product mockups.

Ideogram: Ideogram is an AI design tool that generates high-quality graphics with exceptionally accurate text rendering, making it ideal for creating quote-based and typography-focused designs. I also use the prompt based editing for mockups, making it a wonderful alternative to Photoshop, which is expensive.

Midjourney: Midjourney is an AI image tool that blows my mind every time I use it. It takes some time to get the prompts down. Once you play with it, you will get better at creating images and art to include on your print on demand products.

E-Hunt: E-Hunt is fantastic for competitor research and some light keyword research. My favorite aspect of E-Hunt is the Chrome extension that allows you to see the sales amount for an individual item on Etsy. Check out this article to see an example.

eRank: eRank is an SEO data tool that also allows you to search the competition and will also give you key words for your Etsy listing. It is also a low cost tool that will help you find low competition and highly searched niches.

Printify: Printify is a print-on-demand (POD) service that allows individuals and businesses to create and sell custom-designed products without needing to manage inventory or handle fulfillment. I put my designs on products offered by Printify. When an item sells, Printify prints and ships to my customer.
